Crown TSP 6000 Provided field research and ergonomics design support for this award-winning operator-up stockpicker. ESD’s research provided the foundation for this machine’s innovative control system.

Reach Truck User Interface Provided extensive human factors design support for the Crown RR 5000 electric fork lift. Extensive user interviews and analysis, major design work, and user-interface evaluations were performed. This award-winning product set a new standard for ease-of-use and design within the industry. It has been reviewed in Business Week, ID magazine, and Innovations.

Crown 5000S Rider Reach Truck Interface This unique sit/stand electric fork lift was the result of innovative industrial design and human factors work. Design guidance on control operation and arrangement, component adjustability, and workspace geometry was provided. The product received the prestigious “Top 10” design award at the Hannover iF design competition, the “best in class” ID award, and the BusinessWeek IDEA Gold award.

WAVE Work Assist Vehicle Provided ergonomics design support, evaluations, and various analyses for the development of the Crown WAVE Work Assist Vehicle, a compact, electric materials handling transport device. Awarded the 1999 BusinessWeek/IDEA Gold Award for this work. The WAVE has found wide-spread applications in small-parts picking and retail environments.

Crown SC 4000 Electric Fork Lift Provided human factors and ergonomics design support for the development of the Crown SC 4000 Counterbalanced Lift Truck. Overall workspace geometry, pedal placement, seating, steering wheel, and entry/egress issues were addressed during this work. Ergonomic Systems Design received the BusinessWeek IDEA Gold award for this work.

Crown RR 3500 Lift Truck Provided human factors design support for the development of a new stand-up reach truck. Thirty operators in warehouse facilities around the country were interviewed, a task analysis was performed, competitive vehicles were evaluated, and design objectives were developed. Provided ergonomic specifications and assisted industrial designers during the development of a full-scale mockup.

Crown FC 4000 Counterbalance Lift Truck Provided human factors design support for the development of the Crown FC 4000. Analyses and recommendations addressed expanded floor space, foot pedal design and placement, overall seating geometry, and steering column layout. This product was awarded the Good Design Award by the chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

Chariot Stand-up Auto Scrubber Provided user interface design support for the industry’s first stand-up automatic floor scrubbing machine by Windsor. This highly successful product greatly improves operator efficiency and reduces operator fatigue.

Crown PE 4000 Provided ergonomics design support for the design of a new line of pallet trucks by Crown. Evaluated competitive products and assisted industrial designers with the development of design objectives. Conducted human performance research with prototype trucks.
